The Silence of The City/謐城
“Wang Xiaoshuang's works are infinite circulations from life to death, micro to macro, silence to chaos, hope to despair, fantasy to reality, and everything to nothing... The cityscape is his way of self-expression, it is a bridge and a guide for the viewer to explore its possibilities more deeply. Perhaps such exploration can also trigger further awareness towards our surrounding environment.
Wang's work in this exhibition stem from cities from his imagination. From paintings to the resin installation make up of everyday garbage, he expresses the fast-paced demolition and the city's expansion in our daily lives. While the urban concrete jungle seems indestructible and constant - from a higher perspective of time and space - it is actually fragile and impermanent, just like life.
Wang was born in Hebei in 1991. He is a young up and coming contemporary artist. He graduated from Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in 2013 with a Bachelor's Degree in Oil Painting. in 2016, he graduated with a Master's Degree in Oil Painting from the Fine Arts of Shanghai University.
